My favourite book as a child was The New Baby Calf, written by Edith Newlin Chase and illustrated by the incomparable Barbara Reid. I remember poring over her intricate Plasticine artwork, completely entranced by the texture and magic of a medium I had never seen before. This issue of Canadian Children’s Book News celebrates the unconventional artwork found in Canadian children’s books.
